From zero to startup founder in 10 months (using AI tools)

Hello Reader,

Ten months ago, I started coding again.

It felt overwhelming.

Too many frameworks, too many errors, too much setup.

So I did what I always do.

I experimented.

I tried every AI coding tool I could get my hands on.

And here’s what I learned: every tool fits a stage.

The Roadmap I Followed

Here’s the exact progression that took me from beginner stage → building my startup in under a year:

  1. ChatGPT & Claude → for ideas, brainstoming, research, debugging help and quick scripts
  2. Figma Make → design-first coding for UI prototypes
  3. Canva Code → quick landing pages and marketing sites
  4. Bolt.new → browser-based MVPs and hackathon builds
  5. V0.dev → fast, React & Nextjs prototypes and MVPs
  6. Lovable → production-ready apps with security scans
  7. Cursor → Desktop-based AI-powered IDE similar to VS Code
  8. VS Code + GitHub Copilot → supercharge your daily programming workflow
  9. Claude Code CLI → my current powerhouse

Why This Matters

AI isn’t replacing developers.

It’s changing the tools we use and raising the bar.

Mediocre developers will struggle.

But programmers who understand fundamentals and can harness AI will be in higher demand than ever.

My Advice if You’re Starting Out

  • Start with the simplest tool (ChatGPT, V0, or Bolt)
  • Learn by building small projects
  • Move your projects into tools like Cursor or VS Code as you grow
  • Focus on understanding and improving AI-generated code that’s where your value is

This is how you build momentum.

Last week, I showed how to build a personal context folder for Claude Code from scratch. That approach is useful because you understand exactly how the system works. But not everyone wants to spend an hour deciding which files, folders, and instructions to create. So I packaged the starting point into a free Claude Code Context and Skills Kit. The setup is simple: Open an empty folder in VS Code. Copy one prompt. Run it with Claude Code. Claude will interview you about your: Background and...

Your AI forgets you every time you open a new chat Every new session starts the same way. You explain your stack. Your project. Your brand. What you decided last week. Then you switch tools and explain it again. The fix is not a better prompt or longer context memory. It is a folder that remembers, sitting on your machine, that every AI tool you use can read. I showed my own brain folder in the last post. It has been taking shape for months, and it runs everything I build. Several people...

Let me show you what actually happens when Virgil "just asks Nelly." Nelly is the AI brain behind Virgil's launches. I built her. Virgil talks to her in plain language over Telegram. For example, he'll ask Nelly to analyse the last three launch campaigns. "Hey, analyse these emails and tell me which one actually made the money." Simple, right? Looks like magic. It is not. It is plumbing. Here is what fires behind that one line. The brain is connected to Kit, so it can read every email that...
