Coinbase’s Bold AI Coding Mandate. What It Means for Us

Hello Reader,

Last week, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong made headlines.

He gave engineers 7 days to learn and start using AI coding assistants.
Those who didn’t? Fired.

His target: by the end of this quarter, 50% of Coinbase’s code should be AI-generated.

Today, 33% of their codebase already is.

Why This Matters

This isn’t just another news headline. It signals a shift that many of us have felt coming:

AI coding isn’t optional anymore — it’s becoming the default.

For companies, it means faster shipping cycles, more experiments, and leaner teams.

For engineers, it means a simple choice: adapt or be left behind.

The Bigger Questions

Armstrong’s move raises a few questions worth reflecting on:

  • Is this visionary leadership or reckless pressure?
  • Should the adoption of AI coding be mandatory in tech teams?
  • What’s the right balance between speed and responsibility?

Whether you agree or not, this mandate shows how seriously companies are taking AI-assisted development.

My Take as a Founder

I’ve been coding with AI for 10 months now.
Started with simple tools (Bolt, V0, Lovable)…
Then Cursor and VS Code with Copilot…
And now Claude Code Max.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

  • AI coding multiplies speed, but only if you put in the effort to master it.
  • It doesn’t replace fundamentals — your debugging, architecture, and problem-solving skills matter more than ever.
  • The best coders are those who can blend their experience with AI-native workflows.

So while Coinbase’s approach may feel extreme, the underlying truth is clear:
AI coding is no longer a nice-to-have.

What You Can Do Today

Don’t wait for a CEO mandate to force your hand.
Start small. Pick one AI coding tool, one workflow, and practice daily.

Even 15–30 minutes a day can compound quickly.
In a few months, you’ll be operating at a level where non-AI coders simply can’t keep up.

👉 What do you think about Coinbase’s move?
Would you welcome a 7-day AI coding mandate in your company or push back?

Hit reply and share your thoughts. I’d love to hear your perspective.

Hello Reader, Our beta launch for Sucana failed. And the feedback was brutal. Beta users said, the application is, Slow Clunky Cumbersome Now imagine this: weeks of late nights, coding until 4 AM, finally hitting “launch”… and the first thing you hear from users is exactly that. It stings. Then my cofounders Victor & Virgil called me and said, “Let’s flip it all around.” And I’m sitting here thinking, I pulled late nights. Wrote endless code. You can’t just flip it upside down. You see,...

Hello Reader, Quarter 4 is here. For most of my career, I set yearly goals… and then forgot them by February. Everything felt too big, too far away, and too overwhelming. That changed in 2022 when I discovered quarterly planning. Here’s why it works: Big vision → 5-year direction Focus → one or two projects per quarter Execution → daily actions, weekly reviews, and a scorecard It’s a system that has helped me clarify my direction, build my startup part-time, stay consistent with content, and...

Hello Reader, Imagine this, You wake up, check Slack, and realize half your team has been replaced. Not by new hires. By AI agents. Sounds extreme? It’s already happening. At Google, ~30% of code is AI-generated At Microsoft, ~30% At Robinhood, ~50% Across the industry, ~41% The uncomfortable truth Companies don’t care how code is written. They care about speed, cost, and results. If AI can write, test, and debug faster, why wouldn’t they use it. That’s why: 82% of developers are already...
